Aged Care Assessment

What are the requirement before moving into aged care?

Before you start looking for an aged care facility, either for permanent care or respite we suggest having an Aged Care Assessment completed, as most facilities will request you have this before arranging a tour. In addition to this if you want to access the government subsidy you will need an Aged Care Assessment. These are free assessments conducted by Aged Care Assessment Services (ACAS) teams to assist older people and their carers living in Victoria to identify care that will best meet their needs. An assessment can be arranged through government website My Aged Care.

Aged care facilities require the person entering to complete a Aged Care Means Test Assessment which you can get from Centrelink’s website or a centre. Based on your own personal financial circumstances they may need to pay a refundable accommodation deposit (RAD) and a daily accommodation payment (DAP). Keep in mind the RAD’s are usually negotiable with the ACF, if you are required to pay a deposit.

SRS’s usually require the person to be a lower level of care, however some facilities can accept people with a higher level of care. These services do not require seniors to pay an upfront deposit or bond, rather a weekly fee.
