Video: Isolation in a time of pandemic and what we can do about it

In the early days of the pandemic, health advice encouraged older adults to stay at home and to avoid all contact with others to reduce their risk of contracting the virus. But now, we are starting to hear about the effects of these physical distancing measures on people’s mental health and wellbeing. Sector experts are concerned that while the focus has often been on the devastating circumstances in aged care homes during COVID, social isolation may be contributing to significant issues for older adults both in the community and in residential care.

Dr Belinda Cash, Social Gerontologist at Charles Sturt University talks to Donna Kennett, Managing Editor at HelloCare about how isolation during the pandemic has impacted older adults and the practical things aged care homes, carers and families can do to make things better.
